Understanding the Costs of Making a WooCommerce Store

Before I tell you the cost-saving part, it’s important to know the basic costs to set up a WooCommerce store!  Let me break down the costs for each of them for you:

Domain Name

The very first thing you need is a proper domain. You might find it challenging to find the perfect domain name for your store. But that’s up to you!

  • HostGator – $12.99/yr

Web Hosting

After purchasing your very first domain, you should focus on getting the web hosting. Most sites selling domains will also provide hosting support. It is better to go this route.

WooCommerce

WooCommerce is the e-commerce plugin for WordPress. It’s a basic need to create a WooCommerce store. It’s simple to install, offers a few customizations, and a basic layout to create a store. It’s completely free to use. But, there are some definite drawbacks.

WooCommerce Themes and Plugins

Now come the major aspects of creating a WooCommerce store. These are the themes, plugins, and extensions.

As you already know by now, WooCommerce is a free plugin. And it also provides its own free theme Storefront. You can give the shape to your WooCommerce stores. Yet, it lacks the most important features. And top of that, it also doesn’t provide customizations.

So, you will need a few things, or we can say the basic things to make a proper and working WooCommerce store. This includes themes, plugins, and extensions.

Let’s tell you about all the must-have items and their costs.

Required themes/plugins

As you can see, you’ll need a minimum of $577 to create a WooCommerce store. But there’s a catch! Not every plugin is good and might not provide you with the settings you require. So, on average, the cost might go up to $577.

So, let’s understand what makes these features a must have for your WooCommerce store.

Themes: Why Is it Required?

WooCommerce does have its own theme called Storefront. But it’s not actually perfect for a proper WooCommerce store. You might ask why that is! Storefront gives you a very basic look for your store, with minimal to no customizations at all.

So, you must get a premium or pro version of themes. It will give you the freedom to create a good looking WooCommerce store. And the good part is most premium/pro themes come with all the essential customization.

Average Cost: There are a lot of premium themes in the market. The top tier themes will cost you around $50 to $100 for a single-site license.

Here’s the annual cost for the top-tier WooCommerce themes in the market right now:

  • Astra – $59
  • Divi – $89
  • GeneratePress – $59

What Plugins You Must Have to Create a WooCommerce Store (And Why)?

Now, let’s tell you all about the plugins. You’ll need a few plugins to create your WooCommerce store. Every plugin serves a major role in your store.

Builder Plugins

Builder plugins are direct alternatives to themes. As, they serve the purpose of creating store page layouts. These builder plugins are a must have to create customized WooCommerce stores.

You’ll need to create different pages for your store. Like the home page, shop page, single product page and more. With themes you can create a default layouts for all the pages. You cannot separate the designs.

But with page builders, you can create different layouts for each page, and design them just the way you want.

There are quite a few WooCommerce store page builders out there. Here’s a top 5 picks:

It might be a product you want to explore later, or you have time dependencies, so you can’t check all the details right now. A wishlist plugin is a savior in such times. Why is ProductX a Powerful WooCommerce Page Builder? https://www.wpxpo.com/why-productx-woocommerce-plugin-is-more-powerful/ https://www.wpxpo.com/why-productx-woocommerce-plugin-is-more-powerful/#respond Thu, 23 Nov 2023 04:01:25 +0000 https://www.wpxpo.com/?p=52498 The discussion focuses on the 8 reasons why ProductX is more powerful than other WooCommerce Page Builder options.

But first, let’s look at some stats

WooCommerce had the highest market share in the eCommerce website space, 36.68% according to the reports.

That’s not all.

More than 6.3 million WordPress sites are running WooCommerce. Also, WooCommerce powers every 1 in 5 websites

So, the probability of you trying to sell your online products using WooCommerce is very high!

We also understand there are not many plugins out there that can help you build your site with ease – letting you build something without coding.

Well, the ProductX WooCommerce builder can be your best friend here.

But before that, let’s explore how the plugin was back in the day.

What was ProductX in the Early Days?

Jakir Hasan, the man behind the ProductX plugin, had this to say:

“We wanted to give a fully-featured WooCommerce solution for WordPress users. We wanted them to have a fun and wholesome experience when they built their store with ProductX, harnessing the power of Gutenberg.”

The plugin that initially started in 2019 – wanted to live up to the expectations of the users.

But, the promise was only ‘partially’ fulfilled.

In the early days, it was a “WooCommerce blocks plugin”. Using the power of Gutenberg, it came up with Product blocks that helped to design various WooCommerce pages.

Other features like product pricing, product stock, add to cart, etc. came as customizable blocks.

In short, you could use Gutenberg-like ProductX blocks to create Woocommerce pages.

This approach had a problem.

The users had to manually design each page with the product blocks. Also, they had to make customizations to each of the blocks individually.

At the start, users loved the approach. They loved the Lego-like approach to building WooCommerce pages.

Still, the blocks felt unpolished. And they feature themselves felt incomplete.

On top of that,  the plugin interface on the back end wasn’t very user-friendly. WooCommerce shop builders found that they couldn’t solve issues through the dashboard.

“How can we offer a better experience? How can the user create their WooCommerce store in a few clicks, without looking to bring each block one by one to the page?”

The team wanted to offer something to users of all levels:

“How can we build something that novice users can build without heavily customizing WooCommerce pages with the blocks? Or if they wanted to build something custom, how could they do that?”

These questions and thoughts led to the following 8 reasons why ProductX is more powerful – why is it a better WooCommerce Page Builder?

Here are 8 reasons why:

1. A Reimagined User Interface for ProductX

The reimagined interface came with the latest version of the plugin, ProductX 3.0!

Anik Biswas, one of the key decision-makers for the WooCommerce plugin, had this to share:

“The user needs to feel comfortable with our plugin. When they see the interface for the first time, they should find the helpful resources easily.”

Keeping these thoughts in mind, the team came up with a dynamic design.

The new back-end interface of the plugin is:

  1. Very fluid and dynamic
  2. Offers easy navigation to the different sections of the plugin
  3. Helps users find useful resources directly from the dashboard

Anik Biswas adds that:

“We wanted the users to have full control.”

So far, the UI of version 3.0 lived up to the promise. Users feel more connected to the product. They find the new interface to be more welcoming as all the resources are readily available to them.

It’s one of the key reasons for ProductX to be such a popular page builder.

But the revamped WooCommerce Page Builder is what makes it more powerful.

2. The Powerful ProductX WooCommerce Page Builder

The ProductX WooCommerce Page Builder initially launched with version 2.0. So, it’s not exactly new.

The idea was to help both novice and expert users build pages for the WooCommerce store with minimal hassle.

It should feel like a no-code builder. But with options to import custom designs with a single click. Also, the chance to show them on particular pages.

The WooCommerce version 3.0 page builder had the following things to offer:

  1. A new interface offering more control over the page deployment
  2. Ready-made page templates for quickly creating WooCommerce pages
  3. A reviewed design to view, edit, publish, and bring WooCommerce pages to draft

These 3 things, combined together, managed to solve a lot of issues users were having.

One of the key developers, Tazin, had this to say:

“The plan was to make the whole process easier for the user. If a user can’t find the right setting in the right place, it’s not a complete experience.”

In the previous versions, the builder interface felt half-baked. It didn’t have the right things to help the user build a proper WooCommerce page without difficulties.

But now, things have changed.

The 2-ways of Building a WooCommerce Shop Page Template

Before we start with the creation of a WooCommerce shop page template, you need to know:

What is a WooCommerce Shop Page Template?

You used a WordPress theme before right? The concept is similar.

When you install and activate a theme, it takes all the contents in your website and arranges them in a format.

The concept of a page template is similar.

If you design a shop page template and publish it with the ProductX WooCommerce builder – you will be able to see the shop page in the front end.

Again, it works similar to a WooCommerce theme.

What is a Pre-made Template Design

Before we answer this question, just know that the plugin has 50+ of these templates ready for you.

Remember how the shop page templates are like themes. Well, sometimes, with various themes, you get pre-made page designs.

If you import one of those pages, for example, the homepage, it will look like the pre-made design you imported.

ProductX Pre-made Templates
ProductX Pre-made Templates

A ProductX pre-made template design is similar. For every WooCommerce page imaginable, you get a number of templates.

Now, let’s get back to creating the WooCommerce shop page.

Process 1. How to Import a Pre-made ProductX Design Template

The first way is simple and suitable for beginners. You use a pre-made template as a shop page.

Before you do that, make sure to install and activate both the WooCommerce and ProductX plugins. Otherwise, the process will not work.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to ProductX > Addons and enable the WooCommerce Builder Addon
  2. Click on WooCommerce Builder from the ProductX Menu
  3. On the left-hand menu, select “Shop”
  4. Import a design you like
  5. Import the design and you will land on the editor
  6. In the editor, you can make changes or keep everything as is
  7. Publish the page

It’s not even 10 steps if you choose to use one of the pre-made templates. It only takes 4 to 5 clicks of the mouse to create a shop page for your WooCommerce store.

Here’s a preview of where to import a Design template:

Now there are a couple of things to note here:

If you’re creating a shop page for the first time, there will be no templates available. The system will ask you whether you want to create a ‘design from scratch’ or use the templates.

Importing a ProductX WooCommerce Template
Importing a ProductX WooCommerce Template

Also, there is a ‘Synchronize’ button that can help you get access to the latest templates. Once you update the plugin and click on the synchronize button in the builder, you will get access to the new designs.

Here’s the editor panel view:

If you are not sure how the process works, just follow the resource below:

How to Create a WooCommerce Shop Page Template?

Now let’s move on to process 2.

Process 2. Using the Pre-made Blocks to Create a Single Shop Page Template

The plugin made the block design experience smoother with version 3.0. Also, you are free to use these blocks with the WooCommerce builder to create custom pages.

Previously, the product blocks did not have a lot of options. However, the product blocks received new features in the latest update. Also, they are a lot more fluid now.

And you can use these blocks to create custom WooCommerce pages.

Here’s how to create a custom single shop page template with the WooCommerce Page Builder:

  1. Select “Single Product” in the ProductX WooCommerce Builder
  2. Click on “Start from Scratch” – you will be taken to the editor
  3. In the editor, click on the “+ icon at the top left
  4. If you scroll down, you will find the single product page blocks by ProductX
  5. Bring the desired blocks to the page
  6. Make changes to the blocks if necessary
  7. Finally, publish the page

If you include the installation and other relevant processes, you are looking at around 10 steps.

Here’s a back-end view of the single product page:

Back-end view of a single product page

You are the artist here – just design and publish the page.

However, if you want to view the full process, make sure to check out the resource below:

How to customize a single product page template with ProductX?

What about Page Conditions?

Page conditions allow you, the user, to show specific content on specific pages. For example, you can show archive page contents in specific areas. The WooCommerce Page builder plugin gives you this option.

If you create an archive page for your WooCommerce store, you can set specific conditions for that page. Then the content will show up on that particular page.

Why ProductX is more Powerful - Page Conditions
Why ProductX is More Powerful – Page Conditions

The page builder for WooCommerce was and is a powerful tool. It’s one of the key things that makes ProductX a powerful WooCommerce page builder.

Remember one thing:

You can change the page conditions from the editor page or when you are building the page template for the first time.

But that’s not all. The banner maker quickly became an essential feature.

3. The Banner Maker: Share Offers with Your Audience

Tuhin, one of the marketing minds behind ProductX, had this to add:

“Banner marketing is a great way to let users know about offers on your site. We wanted to give an option in the hands of the user to do exactly that. It’s the sole purpose of the banner maker.”

But you don’t have to use the banner maker for promotions. You can be creative and use it for all kinds of things.

On a different note, if you are looking to sell something on your WooCommerce store this Black Friday, you may want to look at some of the best strategies listed here:

What Black Friday Marketing Strategies Should You Use?

How Does the Banner Maker Work?

The banner maker is a pre-made block. It’s a Gutenberg block that helps you to create different banner designs. Here’s how it works:

  1. Go to Pages > All Pages
  2. Choose the page where you want to put the banner and click “Edit”
  3. Now, click on the “+” icon to the top left
  4. Search for the ProductX Banner Maker Block
  5. Drag it to the desired position on the page
  6. Click on “Pattern”
  7. In the pattern library, choose a design and click “Import”
  8. Make changes to the banner as required
  9. Publish the page

One thing to note here:

You can create a custom design for the banner if you select “Start Blank” (once you bring the banner maker block to the page).

Here’s an example:

If you want more on how to create a banner for product promotions, you can check out this guide on adding a Halloween banner to a WooCommerce page.

So you know how to make a banner for holiday promotions. The question is:

Does it really help?

Well, according to data, around 45-46% of users are looking for ‘something extra’. This is where an offer banner will help you the most.

On a similar note, we created a checklist that can help prepare your WooCommerce store correctly for Black Friday. It’s still not too late to put these strategies into practice:

How to Prepare Your Website for Black Friday Sales?

4. Building Custom Headers and Footers

Not all WooCommerce page builders have this feature. Some may work with other plugins. But that’s not very efficient.

The ProductX plugin had one goal in mind:

“Give total control in the hands of the user!”

With that in mind, the makers of the plugin came up with the header and footer builder. These are part of the powerful woocommerce page builder!

If you can create a custom shop page template, then creating a custom header or footer should be simple:

  1. Just select Header/Footer from the ProductX WooCommerce builder menu
  2. Choose one of the pre-made templates
  3. In the editor, make the changes you want
  4. Select the condition – where do you want the header/footer to show
  5. Publish the template

Your header template is now ready. Based on your preference, you can show it anywhere on your WooCommerce store.

Here’s a custom header template for a custom site:

Custom banner for WooCommerce Site

But the question is:

Is having a custom header or footer builder really necessary?

Turns out, it is!

A custom header is a necessity if you want your users to have a good first impression of your store. The footer is for necessary information about your website – things like affiliations, custom services, etc.

The makers of the plugin thought about everything.

Just like a header or footer template, you can also create a custom WooCommerce 404 page with the WooCommerce builder!

Things like these make ProductX a powerful WooCommerce Page Builder.

5. Use Custom Fonts on Your WooCommerce Store

Custom fonts are super helpful for any kind of store. It’s a necessity because

  • Brands can use custom fonts to share their unique identity
  • Clearly deliver the brand’s message – products, philosophy, and more

These necessities led to the creation of the ProductX custom fonts addon. To use your custom font throughout the store, you need to:

  1. Enable the ProductX custom fonts addon
  2. Go to ProductX > Custom Font
  3. Click on Add New
  4. Give the font a name
  5. Add the suitable file format
  6. Publish the font

Once you publish the font, you can use it anywhere on your site. To use the custom font in a product block:

  • Go to the typography settings of the block
  • Under the font “Family” search for the font and apply it

The font will be applied to the block.

We have a guide on adding fonts to WooCommerce pages – you may want to check it out.

6. Add Regional Pricing with the Currency Switcher

The Currency Switcher Block opens up purchasing opportunities for users around the world.

It’s a block that helps users from different regions get pricing information in their native currency. It works in the following way:

  1. Enable the WooCommerce currency switcher from ProductX Addons
  2. Go to the currency switcher addon setting
  3. Add the different currency information – the ones you want to show
  4. Now, go to the page where you want to show the currency block
  5. Use the “+” icon to search for the block and drag it to the page
  6. Publish the page

Now if you go to the front end of your website, you will see the currency switcher.

From the drop-down, you can choose the different currencies of different regions. We have a guide on variation swatches you can check out.

A product block like this gives you, the store admin, a couple of advantages:

  • Users of different regions can find prices in their own currency
  • Pricing availability for different regions has a positive impact on conversions

So that’s the currency switcher. So, what else makes ProductX a powerful WooCommerce page builder?

7. Smooth Integration with Popular Page Builders

Back in the previous versions, the WooCommerce plugin did not have proper compatibility with page builders like DIVI, Elementor, Beaver, etc.

That’s changed!

The plugin now features support for 5 potential page builders including Elementor and Divi, 2 of the biggest page builders currently available.

If you are using one of these plugins but want access to some powerful features, you are welcome to use ProductX.

But, you may want to consider this:

Can I use ProductX without other plugins?

Remember Jakir Hasan? He had this to say:

“ProductX is meant to be a standalone WooCommerce plugin. You need WooCommerce, nothing else!”

In the end, the choice is yours. You can use it as a standalone WooCommerce plugin or use it with other page builders if you want.

8. More Dedicated Support

Tonmoy Khan, the support lead behind the plugin had this to add:

“The latest version added a whole lot of ProductX. This made my job more interesting, allowing me to understand the pain points of a user and help them achieve success. Together, we are motivated to provide the best support to our users.”

This proves to be true if you look at the recent reviews from some of the customers.

In essence, the product leads the charge. With that, our support team adapts!

The team is super stoked to have such a support team by their side. What does this mean for you?

You get the proper solution every time!

Now, you may be wondering:

What else does the plugin have to offer?

What Else?

Those were the 8 reasons why ProductX is a more powerful WooCommerce Page Builder. But, what more can it offer?

The Advanced Product Sorter: Showcase the Right Products

The advanced product sorter (formerly product query builder) is one of the core features of the plugin. With the latest version, it became a lot more fluid. You can use it to showcase specific products on specific pages if you like.

Product Sort Feature

The product sorter is common in most product grids and list blocks. You can use these blocks and use the product sorter to showcase specific products.

A Redesigned Product Filtering System

In the previous versions, the product filtering wasn’t very powerful. But, in the latest version of the plugin, the product filtering block became more agile.

Users feel more comfortable using it.

Show Variations with the WooCommerce Variation Swatches

You are missing out on a lot of customers if there is no way to show any product variations.

Variation Swatches

With version 3.0 of the plugin, you can show product variations more effectively. The feature is more fluid and dynamic than ever!

Work with Custom Buttons

Custom Buttons is one of the latest additions. Without them, it is not possible to showcase your brand identity.

But, with the custom button feature of the plugin in version 3.0, you can easily do this. This feature gives you granular-level control over showcasing your brand.

What’s the Future of ProductX

The ProductX version 3.0 roadmap includes the following major updates slated for the future:

  1. Speed optimizations throughout the plugin – the features will feel more snappy and responsive.
  2. A powerful template kit for 1-click site deployment
  3. More feature additions and speed optimizations to the WooCommerce Builder
  4. Updates to features like product quick view, filter, compare, and more – reducing dependency on other plugins.

So, you can expect more improvements in the coming days!

The Decision is Yours

Omith Hasan, one of the creative ideators behind the marketing team, had this to add:

“It’s always a pleasure to work on the marketing of a product that is so well thought out! The product has expanded, and we are more motivated to help our users.”

The bottom line is this:

You are at will to give ProductX a shot. Given the feature set, it would be a waste not to!

11 Proven Tactics for Security for eCommerce [Save your Store!] https://www.wpxpo.com/security-for-ecommerce/ https://www.wpxpo.com/security-for-ecommerce/#respond Tue, 07 Nov 2023 10:28:07 +0000 https://www.wpxpo.com/?p=52123 A good eCommerce business requires good security. Security for eCommerce is of pivotal importance in the 21st century. Why is that?

According to the latest data, 70% of small businesses are completely unprepared for a cyberattack. Also, the prediction shows that more than 33 billion online accounts will be hacked in 2023 alone.

That’s not all, more than 80% of hackers can get through the defenses of an online business in around 12 hours!

These are alarming facts for any online entity, especially if it is a WooCommerce store.

Our discussion today addresses this issue. Together, we will explore eCommerce security, what it is, what are the notable issues, and what are the proven ways to solve it?

Security for eCommerce [What You Should Know]

eCommerce security is nothing more than a set of guidelines that highlights a set of dimensions for optimal performance while maintaining security. For example, you have a set of security rules to save your physical store from theft. The concept is similar.

eCommerce security solutions have some security dimensions.

6 Key eCommerce Security Dimensions
6 Key eCommerce Security Dimensions

6 Key eCommerce Security Dimensions

There are 6 key dimensions to the eCommerce security aspect:

Authenticity:

In terms of security for an eCommerce website, authenticity refers to the real identities of the seller and the buyer

Unfortunately, the authenticity dimension isn’t easy to control. Unwanted 3rd parties can use fake email addresses and compromise authenticity. Although there are safeguards in place, authenticity control between the buyer and the seller can be difficult.

Confidentiality:

Confidentiality is easy enough to understand. It deals with the fact that the user identity and the merchant identity remain intact and no one can steal the data. This way, the data confidentiality remains intact.

There is a chance of 140+ billion data breaches between the years 2018 to 2023. The real number is estimated to be more because of the introduction of AI tools.

Packet sniffing tools can breach data confidentiality. Using these tools, hackers can easily steal the customer purchase history, and other forms of data.

Availability:

An eCommerce store needs to be available 24/7. A buyer can come at any time to make a purchase. If the data availability is not regular, the site owner will lose a competitive advantage.

That’s what availability stands for!

If a customer cannot make a purchase from a WooCommerce store, the availability aspect is no longer valid. It means the site integrity is not complete.

Privacy:

Data privacy refers to the control over an individual’s data provided by the merchant or admin.

For example, if you are a registered buyer at an online wholesale store, the site admin is bound to give you full access to the users data. You can change the information or choose not to provide any confidential information.

Also, the site owner is liable to provide adequate facilities to tackle eCommerce security threats.

Once a hacker gets access to an eCommerce website, data privacy is broken. Once such a breach occurs, it may cause catastrophic damages to the user(s) who have been exposed to such attacks.

Integrity:

Integrity of data is when the information from the customer reaches ‘without change’ to the online merchant.

For example, if a user sends his or her credit card details through the online eCommerce portal and the data reaches unaltered without interception – the integrity of the data is safe. Hence, eCommerce website security remains intact.

However, data integrity is compromised if an unwanted 3rd party intercepts the data in transit and changes the information.

For example, let’s say you were making a $200 purchase from an online clothing store. If the unwanted entity somehow managed to get ahold of the data before it reached the site admin/merchant changed the price to $350 and added some items to the cart, the merchant or the customer would not be able to catch the changes in time.

Non-repudiation:

It means the transaction is valid and will not be denied by any entity.

For example, there are certain things you need to do to order a product from an online WooCommerce store. If a customer doesn’t follow all the steps, there is a chance the customer may not receive the product. Non-repudiation ensures the customer agrees to receive the product once he or she places an order.

Otherwise, the merchant or shop admin hold the right to deny the request.

9 Known eCommerce Security Threats [Threats to Know About]

The types of security threats are many. However, there are a number of security threats that have a higher chance of occurrence. We will be talking about them in the coming sections.

9 Notable eCommerce Security Threats!
9 Notable eCommerce Security Threats!

1. Brute Force Attacks

This is the simplest form of attack on an online website or server. The attacker tries various methods to try and guess a user’s email identification and password and use it to access the site of that particular user.

When an attacker successfully executes a brute force attack, he or she can gain access to the user’s data. It is one of the most used methods for identity theft and fraud.

Different types of brute force attacks

There are different types of brute force attacks. Some common types of attacks are:

  1. Simple Brute Force Attack: A manual form of attack that involves the hacker trying to guess the login credentials of a user. Weak password etiquette can lead to the success of such attacks.
  2. Reverse Brute Force Attack: If a hacker somehow recovers your old password, they will be able to use it to recover your latest password. These types of attacks are successful when you use repeat characters for your passwords. Attackers study the old password and try to guess the new login details.
  3. Credential Stuffing: Credential stuffing is similar to reverse brute force attack as it involves analyzing the password patterns of a user. Again, users who use similar login IDs and passwords for their sites.

There is another form of credential attack called the dictionary brute force attack – the chances of success of this type of attack are very low. Also, the hybrid attack uses both the simple and the dictionary attack to gain success (for the attacker of course!).

Using strong passwords is the only possible way to counter the brute force attacks. We will discuss password security in the coming sections.

2. Malware Attacks

Another eCommerce website security threat is attacks from malware or malicious software. There are different forms of malware attacks that can compromise WooCommerce security:

  1. Keyloggers: These are another form of malware that logs the keystrokes of a user. Hackers can easily fish the login data from the keylogger and gain access to sensitive data.
  2. Backdoors and Rootkits:  Backdoors and rootkits are tools attackers use to gain “back-door” access to eCommerce websites. This access allows the attackers to gain sensitive information about the users registered to an eCommerce site.

These are some of the potential eCommerce security threats you can observe from malware attacks. However, there are other forms of malware attacks – you will see them in a bit.

The best way to be safe from such attacks is not to click on “flashy” or “fishy” online ads or websites. Other potential eCommerce security solutions against malware will be shared in the later sections.

3. Ransomware Attacks

Only in the US from June 2022 to July 2023, over 1400 ransomware attacks were recorded. The latest reports show no slow-downs in ransomware attacks.

It is a form of eCommerce security threat that locks all the files in your system. Then the attacker asks for payment to unlock all the files. Nowadays, hackers ask for Bitcoin as ransom to unlock the files in the system.

Ransomware can come in the form of malicious web links or downloadable files. As mentioned before, don’t click or download anything suspicious. It will help you be safe from ransomware attacks.

4. SQL Injection and Cross-site Scripting (XSS)

SQL injection is a critical web security vulnerability. Attackers use malicious code to manipulate the backend database of a website and view sensitive information like user access codes, general information, etc.

On the other hand, Cross-site scripting is another form of code injection where the hacker inserts malicious code into the website. The website is served to the user in the infected form. Unfortunately, there’s no way to learn that the site is affected. This can lead to identity theft online.

5. Trojan Horse

Trojan Horse is a type of malware that is still very prevalent in the eCommerce space. Also, more than 50% of attacks happen from trojan horses.

These are malicious programs in the cloak of useful software. In short, the system identifies them as useful programs, which they are not!

They remain mostly undetected by the user. During such time, the program helps the attacker gain all the important information about a user.

The use of a firewall is an ideal way to stop such programs from being installed on your system.

6. Malicious Bots

Malicious bots are often thought of as one of the main eCommerce security threats for the following reasons:

  1. These types of bots often try and gain unauthorized access to eCommerce websites
  2. They are used for software scalping where the product stock is depleted – raising the product prices
  3. These bots can scrape images from pages and create counterfeit online stores – leading customers to give their personal information

7. Man-in-the-Middle Attacks (MiM Attacks)

Man-in-the-middle attacks are common forms of cyber attacks. Hackers change the transaction credentials or purchase orders without the knowledge of the eCommerce site admin or the customer.

Attackers can deploy malware to gain access to sensitive customer data as well. Unfortunately, without proper countermeasures in place, you will not be able to prevent such attacks.

8. Phishing and Baiting

Phishing and baiting fool users into sharing sensitive information with hackers. Phishing attacks can be disguised as fraudulent websites. Regular users are not aware of this. As a result, hackers end up with the important credentials of users.

In general, phishing and baiting require hackers to get information from the users. So, if store owners can take specific measures as to how and what information gets collected from the users, such hacking attempts can be minimized.

9. E-skimming

E-skimming attacks target the checkout or payment pages – gaining sensitive transaction information in real time. These types of attacks originate from brute force attacks, phishing, and other cyber attacks.

The website security needs to be airtight when dealing with threats like skimming. The site needs patch updates to stay on top of skimming attacks.

Then there are DoS (Denial of Service) and DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks that restrict access to eCommerce sites for a period of time.

Because of these attacks, revenue generation takes a hit – resulting in a loss for the company.

11 Proven Ways to Prevent eCommerce Security Threats [on WordPress]

eCommerce security threats are constantly evolving. This is why it’s super necessary to manage your WooCommerce store – ensuring better security measures.

security for eCommerce: 11 Proven tactics
Security for eCommerce: 11 Proven Tactics

The following suggestions apply to both customers and WooCommerce store owners. If you take these measures into account, the possibility of security threats will go down significantly.

1. Password Security: Creating Hard-to-Break Passwords

A secure password is the first line of defense against eCommerce security threats. Weak passwords are the entry point for hackers, something you’d want to avoid at all costs.

There are 7 characteristics of weak passwords:

  1. Using your name as a password
  2. Using the name of your pets or family members
  3. Use of the same login code again and again
  4. Using the same password on multiple sites
  5. Using common names like phoenix, sunshine, etc.
  6. Use common password patterns like 123, qwerty, 123456, etc
  7. Using common words from the dictionary

Hackers exploit these 7 traits to get your personal information and cause harm to your WooCommerce store brand. To be two steps ahead of the hackers, you need to:

  1. Use passwords that are 12 characters long
  2. Do not use any recognizable characters in the password.
  3. Use special symbols (*, #, ]) within the password.
  4. Use a combination of upper case, lower case, and numeric characters.
  5. Do not use dictionary-specific words directly in the password.

These are some of the key things you need to maintain when creating a strong password. According to reports, it can take up to 32,000 years to crack a 12-character password with a combination of upper case, lower case, numeric, and special characters.

And if you feel like you won’t be able to create strong passwords, use a password manager. Password managers like LastPass, Bitwarden, NordPass, etc. are reliable tools for password creation and management.

2. Choose a Proper Hosting for Your WordPress eCommerce Site

Choosing the right hosting for your eCommerce store is crucial to keeping your online identity secure. In general, you need to look for the following features in a hosting that will keep your online store safe from eCommerce security threats:

  1. Make sure the hosting offers an SSL certificate
  2. Regular backup service should be available
  3. DDoS protection offerings should be available
  4. Site-wide and server-wide firewall deployment

These are the things you should check before moving on to buying a hosting for your WooCommerce store.

A good idea here is to chat with the hosting representatives and check whether or not they are offering the above-mentioned security measures. Also, having a PCI (Payment card industry) compliant payment processor is a huge plus point in this matter.

3. Keep WooCommerce Plugins Up-to-Date

You are using WordPress WooCommerce to maintain your online business, it is crucial that you keep your plugins up to date.

If you do not do so, hackers can deploy measures to hack your website and gain control of your data. WooCommerce plugins offer regular updates, at least that are properly maintained.

If you are using a proper plugin like ProductX for your WooCommerce store or WholesaleX for your B2B storefront, you will be prompted to update them on a weekly basis.

This way, you get the latest features as well as the promise of security.

To update a WordPress plugin, you simply need to:

  • Go to your WordPress dashboard
  • Click on the “circular icon” at the top of your WordPress dashboard
  • It will take you to the update section where you can update themes and plugins
  • Select the plugins you want to update and click on update
  • After some time, your plugins will be updated.

4. SSL Certificate: Update it for Peace of Mind

SSL (Secure Socket Layer), otherwise known as TLS (Transport Layer Security), is a security protocol for data encryption and server security. It enables HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure) for your website, allowing a secure and encrypted connection between a user and your website.

SSL is a common requirement for eCommerce website security in 2023. It is not safe to run an eCommerce website without SSL as you miss out on secure authentication and encryption for your website.

5. Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN)

A CDN is a group of servers set in particular locations that cache site data for users in a location close to those users. As the data is cached in a server close to the user, quick deployment of the data is easier.

A CDN doesn’t just provide adequate security against DDoS attacks but also helps to reduce data redundancy and quick deployment of data to the client’s website. So, using a Content Delivery Network is crucial for both data security and data delivery optimization.

If you wish to maintain a fast and secure eCommerce store, use a CDN!

6. Increase the Use of Security Authentication Keys

A security authentication key works as a secondary authenticator for users. It is like a secure code you enter to access your website or server.

Although these types of services aren’t very scalable, they are very suitable for large eCommerce entities. Also, it only allows authenticated personnel to access the site – making it more secure.

So, this extra layer of security can be very useful if you are an established entity and want to offer access to a handful of people.

But if you are a Small Business Enterprise and want to invest in better eCommerce website security measures, it is best to plan for Security Authentication Keys early on and invest in them.

7. Invest in eSecurity Training for your Staff

eCommerce security threats are changing – attackers are constantly changing their tactics to breach the privacy of users. However, there is certainly a pattern of attacks – there are some obvious markers of cybersecurity attacks.

And you need to train your team so that they can identify these markers. It’s not too late to show them some of the basic things that would help identify security risks and avoid them.

For this reason, it is so important to invest in eSecurity training for your team who help you handle the business.

8. Keep Regular Backups of your WooCommerce Site

It is crucial to keep frequent backups of your WooCommerce store if hackers try and inject malicious code into your site.

WordPress tools like JetPack, and UpdraftPlus are reliable tools for keeping your WordPress website safe and secure.

These are WordPress plugins that can help keep backups of your sites as well as restore your WooCommerce store if you run into any trouble with product updates.

So, make sure to use a proper backup plugin as it will help you with your site’s security as well as help you with A/B testing

9. Use Strong Usernames

Usernames should be strong as well as the user passwords. In various instances, hackers can get access to your login credentials with the usernames. As such, it is crucial that usernames are strong enough that hackers can’t guess them properly.

Keep the username professional and use special characters in the name to make it more secure.

This initiative will help add an extra layer of security to your WooCommerce site.

10. Use a Firewall Plugin

Your hosting should come with a firewall setup. However, in case there is doubt, you are free to use a WooCommerce firewall plugin as an added layer of security.

AIOS is a good firewall plugin in this case. It has some great features and offers good security for your WooCommerce store.

Also, you can look for other options in the WordPress directory. There are some great fire plugin options you can consider.

11. Control Access to your WordPress WooCommerce Store

You can control access to your WordPress WooCommerce store. There are several types of access you can grant a specific user. Based on the access you assign to the user, specific access to settings will be granted.

So, based on the role you want to set for a user, you can select the access type and save the changes on your WooCommerce dashboard.

Once you do this, the user with the specific access will have access to some features of the site.

There’s another thing you need to keep in mind. And that is Multi-factor authentication (MFA).

MFA implies that a user verifies themselves in multiple ways before access the site. For example, if a user tries to login with their username and password, they need to include a verification code from their mobile device that is sent instantly. There are other approaches as well.

FAQ

You may have a couple of questions about both plugins. We will try and answer them here:

What is the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) makes guided efforts to ensure that an organization maintains their products and services to certain standards. These standards are set by ISO.

The ISO 27001 outlines a set of requirements and practices that allow organizations to maintain their security and confidentiality. An ISO certified business entity maintains the practices and strategies set forth by ISO – meaning they have a set of industry-standard protocols in place.

Will a VPN help secure my eCommerce store?

VPN or Virtual Private Networks create end-to-end encryption keys when a client uses VPN. Now it does introduce some latency, but the end-to-end data connection remains secure, even if some hacker is monitoring data passing through the Internet Exchange Point.

Should I be Worried about a Zero-Day Attack?

A zero-day attack primarily occurs because of software vulnerability. If there is a core issue in the code of the software, attackers release a malware to exploit it – for this reason, it’s called a Zero-day Attack. If you ever face such a vulnerability, unfortunately, there is no way to identify it initially.

What does the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) dictate about online security?

GDPR security rules ask companies to secure user data in the safest way possible. The organization is responsible for the data security of its users.

Data breaches in Large Corporations

Here are some examples of data breaches in large corporations. These are all online entities that saw major breaches in their online security:

  1. Microsoft faced a data breach back in 2021 where 30,000 businesses worldwide were exposed. Hackers exploited 4 separate Zero-day vulnerabilities to execute the attack.
  2. Because of a sync tool vulnerability, 530 million users of Facebook were exposed in April 2021.
  3. Another incident occurred in the same year (2021), where 700 million users of LinkedIn were exposed due to an email address vulnerability (possible phishing attack).
  4. Back in 2014, Home Depot experienced a breach where 56 million credit card details were exposed. Hackers used 3rd party tools execute the attack.
  5. Adobe experienced an attack in 2013 that revealed 38 million credit card numbers. Reports claim that the attack was likely because of the switch to selling desktop licenses to moving to the cloud.

Keep Your eCommerce Store Safe

Around 91% of E-commerce businesses have had at least one incident regarding eCommerce website security. Also, in 2022, more than 40 billion dollars in damages were reported that originated from cyber attacks.

So, it is super important to pay attention to security for eCommerce. As exhibited above, damage from online attacks can be devastating.

It is our recommendation that you take the 11 recommendations for eCommerce security and try to implement them to the best of your abilities. Although it will not completely eliminate the possibility of an attack, it will help mitigate the damages to a great extent.

ProductX Vs. CoDesigner [Which One to Use for WooCommerce?] https://www.wpxpo.com/productx-vs-codesigner/ https://www.wpxpo.com/productx-vs-codesigner/#respond Mon, 30 Oct 2023 03:03:59 +0000 https://www.wpxpo.com/?p=51623 Are you looking to create your first WooCommerce store? Well, you’ve come to the right place. Today, we are here with the ProductX vs. CoDesigner comparison.

Now the next question is: Why these two plugins?

Well, both these plugins have some distinct features that make them potential options for beginners. However, while going through the features of these plugins we found specific differences that we will address here today.

Hopefully, this discussion will help you find the right choice for your next WooCommerce store.

A Brief Introduction of the WooCommerce Plugins

The following sections give you a brief idea of the plugins. Both these plugins are similar in the sense that they both help you create WooCommerce stores.

ProductX WooCommerce Builder Plugin

ProductX is a Gutenberg WooCommerce builder plugin that allows you to create complete WooCommerce sites in just a few clicks. It’s a lightweight and easy-to-use plugin that allows users to create shop pages, single product pages, archive pages, and others without hassle, enabling smooth customization.

Among the various features of this plugin, you have:

  • A WooCommerce builder to build custom shop pages.
  • A wide variety of pre-made templates and patterns for quick deployment.
  • An array of easy-to-use controls within each product block.
  • Advanced product sorting to show selected items to users.
  • Variation swatches to show different variations of products.
  • Pre-order and back-order functionalities for better usability.
  • Call-for-price feature for better sale of products.
  • Enable partial payments to increase product sales.
  • Currency switcher for user convenience.
  • Stock progress bar for easy product tracking
  • Quick view, compare, and Wishlist features to offer a customized experience.
  • An advanced product filter for customized product search.

The plugin offers granular-level functionality with its product blocks and allows users to freely customize their WooCommerce shops without any difficulty.

CoDesigner WooCommerce Plugin for Elementor

CoDesigner is an Elementor-focused WooCommerce plugin that allows Elementor users to create online shop pages. The plugin is easy to use with Elementor and has a couple of good product blocks with proper settings. Among its various features, you have:

  • A wide number of WooCommerce widgets for Elementor.
  • Features a proper email designer for shop admins.
  • Offer a shop notification setting for tracking item purchases.
  • An easy-to-use pricing table to show customized service pricing.
  • Cross-platform copy and paste setting for better usability.

The above-mentioned options are some of the notable features of the plugin. They have good design controls that are easy enough to understand and customize. Elementor users will find it a useful option.

Now, let’s dive deeper into the plugins and see which plugin wins this comparison.

Basic Plugin Requirements

The very first thing about these plugins is the dependency. For both plugins, you need to have the WooCommerce WordPress plugin installed on your WordPress website.

ProductX is a Standalone Plugin

But, with ProductX, you only need the WooCommerce plugin. You don’t need any other 3rd party plugins to create a WooCommerce store. You will be able to use it as a standalone option, or with page builders like Elementor, Divi, Oxygen, Beaver Builder, etc.

CoDesigner Requires Elementor

Since the CoDesigner plugin is an Elementor-based plugin, you will need both WooCommerce and Elementor for the plugin to work. You cannot use it as a standalone option like the ProductX plugin. In short, you won’t be able to build pages without the help of functionalities from Elementor.

Both these plugins will work with the latest version of WordPress

However, ProductX is the clear winner here because of its lower dependency. You just have to install ProductX to create WooCommerce pages. You don’t need to rely on any other page builders. You can think of it as a standalone plugin to create a WooCommerce Store.

ProductX Vs. CoDesigner: Feature Comparison

In terms of features, both plugins have their ups and downs – there are some notable differences between the two. Let’s explore them:

Presence of a WooCommerce Builder

One of the great things about the ProductX plugin is its WooCommerce builder

The WooCommerce builder is an independent builder that allows you to build custom product page templates without 3rd part plugin dependencies (except only for WooCommerce). Here’s a quick overview of how it works:

ProductX WooCommerce Builder

You can create the home page, shop page, cart page, checkout page, single product page, thank you page, header, footer, and other templates with the builder.

The best thing is, that you don’t have to change any particular settings if you don’t want to. All you have to do is set the condition for the page template – where you want to show that template on your online store.

That’s it. The page template will show up exactly on that page.

Though you can do a lot of things with CoDesigner, you have some dependencies with WooCommerce. You can create templates using the widgets. But you need to make changes to the WooCommerce settings for that design to show up on that page.

For example, if you create a shop page template with CoDesigner and Elementor, you need to go to WooCommerce > Settings > Products and change the shop page template to the template you just designed with Elementor.

Pre-made Templates and Patterns

ProductX comes with 80+ different pre-made page templates with 10+ starter packs. These templates and patterns are deployable with a single click.

From creating the template to saving it will take no more than 3-5 clicks (if you are using a pre-made design that is!).

Unfortunately, CoDesigner is lacking in this section. You have to enable a specific widget before you can use it with Elementor. On average, you need at least 5-8 clicks to deploy your design.

Also, with CoDesigner you have 80+ widgets. However, you have limited patterns for the designs.

The Ready Made Product Blocks

The Widgets in CoDesigners have enough design properties to create single WooCommerce pages.

However, with ProductX, you have better flexibility given the number of templates you have. Only for the single product page, you have more than 15+ product blocks with in-built design controls. And you don’t have to rely on any other plugins.

Variation Swatches for Showcasing Product Variations

The ‘variation swatches’ is a notable feature of the ProductX plugin. You have the option to showcase various product attributes using the feature – allowing users to see the different product variations in your store. Here’s how you can use it:

Unfortunately with CoDesigner, you don’t have such a potential feature.

Partial Payments, Pre-order and Back-order

Features like partial payments, pre-orders, and backorders are essential for boosting sales. With ProductX, you have the option to enable or disable these features.

Again, with CoDesigner, you are not getting such important features.

Email Designer Feature

The Email designer is a prominent feature of the CoDesigner plugin. You can design emails to send the customer after the purchase. You can also test whether or not the email is being sent to the right user.

Unfortunately, you do not have such a feature with ProductX. Still, you can create custom thank you pages and the user will be able to see a custom thank you page after purchase.

The Ability to Switch Currencies

The ProductX Plugin gives its users the ability to switch currencies of Products to showcase region-specific prices using the currency switcher block. Here’s a quick video to show you how the feature works:

How does Variation Swatches Work?

The feature is not present in the CoDesigner plugin.

Use Various Page Builders

You can use the ProductX plugin with various page builders including Elementor. However, with CoDesigner, you can only create templates with Elementor. You are not free to creatively design with other page builders.

This is just a high-level overview of some of the key features of these WooCommerce plugins. However, you may want to look at the table below to get a better overview of the plugins:

Distinction of Key Traits between ProductX and CoDesigner

Ease of Use

The ease of use for a WooCommerce plugin depends on a couple of things:

Does the plugin have proper documentation?

Unfortunately, the CoDesigner plugin does not have tidy documentation. It lacks the flow that is needed for a user to find the proper solution from the documentation.

In contrast to the CoDesigner plugin, the ProductX plugin has tidier documentation. Solving issues from the documentation is easier because of the way the doc is laid out for the plugin.

What is the Cost of Going Pro?

Again, ProductX comes out on top as it is independent of other plugins. You are getting a plugin that can build product pages freely. However, you do need the WooCommerce plugin for functionality.

The CoDesigner plugin relies on both WooCommerce and Elementor (as mentioned earlier). This will raise your investment price if you are looking to go pro.

Are the settings intuitive enough?

When you are using a setting in a plugin, it should be intuitive. You should be able to understand how the settings work just by looking at it. Fortunately, the settings in ProductX are intuitive enough that a user can understand how the next setting works.

But, as mentioned before, with the CoDesigner WooCommerce plugin, it is difficult to understand how to show a page after you create the template. Also, you need to have an idea about both WooCommerce and Elementor to create WooCommerce elements.

So, the question now stands: which plugin is harder?

In contrast to CoDesigner, ProductX has a more reasonable learning curve. It’s simply because of the fact that you only need to have a basic understanding of ProductX and WooCommerce to get started.

Also, with ProductX, you have the 1-click import feature that brings a page template to life without the need for excessive customization.

How easy is it to build something with the plugin?

One of the great things about the pre-made templates and patterns of ProductX is the 1-click template/pattern import.

For example, if you want to create a homepage for your WooCommerce store with ProductX, you can simply import a template and be done with it.

With CoDesigner, however, you don’t have any pre-made templates you can use to create a page readily. Although the blocks are pre-made, the designs are very minimal. Also, you need to change certain WooCommerce properties to show the page in a certain location on your WooCommerce store.

Ease of Use Metrics

***Please note that these metrics are objective. Ease of use may vary from user to user.

Plugin Support

Both plugins show great promise when it comes to customer support. With an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars for both plugins, you can expect good customer support from both parties.

And in terms of recent updates, both plugins manage to offer a steady flow of feature updates

So, in terms of plugin support, both plugins are offering similar support.

Plugin Pricing

The ProductX plugin has 3 pricing tiers for yearly and lifetime purchases. Pricing starts from $49 for yearly plans. Pricing for lifetime product support starts from $149

Similarly, the CoDesigner plugin has a similar pricing tier with a yearly and a lifetime plan. Pricing starts from $49 for yearly plans and $149 for lifetime plans.

And the Winner is…

From the testing, it is clear that the ProductX plugin has superior features and functionality. It’s easy to use, is usable with various page builders, has plenty of important features, and doesn’t require any extensive knowledge of other plugins.

Although the CoDesigner plugin lacks in some spaces, it has some solid features like the Email builder, pricing table, and sales alert, it depends on another plugin.

Because of its dependence on Elementor, some features do require you to dive deep into the features and settings of WooCommerce and Elementor. Also, the documentation doesn’t help very much in this case.

Furthermore, given the performance of CoDesigner, the pricing doesn’t feel too justified. You have some great features. Still, ProductX offers more – acting as a full site builder for WooCommerce stores.

Best WooCommerce Partial Payment Plugins https://www.wpxpo.com/best-woocommerce-partial-payment-plugins/ https://www.wpxpo.com/best-woocommerce-partial-payment-plugins/#comments Tue, 03 Oct 2023 11:41:35 +0000 https://www.wpxpo.com/?p=51512 The discussion for today is all about the best WooCommerce Partial Payment Plugins

Now, before we get into the review of the WooCommerce deposit and partial payment plugin, you should probably know something:

What is partial payment?

Partial payment is the amount a user can pay that covers a portion of the total amount. For example, lets say a product costs $1000 dollars and you, the admin, is allowing 20% partial payment. It means if the customer can buy the product by paying 20% of the full invoice cost – $200 to be exact, as long as the full payment is done before a pre-defined period.

And you can do these things with a WordPress deposit and partial payment plugin.

Our review consists of a couple of great partial payment plugins that are easy to use. We took into account their features, usability, and pricing to judge their overall usability.

So, without further ado, let’s get started!

Best WooCommerce Partial Payment Plugins – The Choices

You don’t have to look any further. We took the liberty of going through some of the slider plugins for WordPress. Upon review, we came up with a couple of options you may find useful.

We took various factors into account like the pricing, support, functionality, etc., and came up with this list of WordPress plugins. This list should be more than enough to help you find the right plugin.

But first, let’s talk about the concept of a WordPress slider.

Does Everyone Like the WordPress Slider Concept?

Sliders can either be a hit or a miss.

Some users love them. Others don’t really love them that much. It all depends on preference. In general, having a powerful slider can help convey a proper message to a user about your website or mode of business.

However, there is a chance that it will hamper your website’s performance

The reason behind it is simple.

Not all WordPress developers understand the philosophy behind a slider. For this reason, they pack too many features – oftentimes not thinking how it will impact the user’s website. This can lead to slower load times that can impact overall performance.

But the general rule of thumb is simple:

If you want to help users understand the purpose of your blog, or know what type of products you are selling on your online store – it is a good idea to use a proper slider.

What are the Best WordPress Slider Plugins?

There are a couple of WordPress slider options that are better than the others. Our list is about those particular options. One of the problems with such lists is the fact that you need to check out each individual and see whether they serve the purpose or not.

So far, we’ve come up with a short list of options that will meet your needs. However, some options may be more prominent than others. You will have to choose which plugin will be best for your needs:

How to Choose the Best WordPress Slider Plugins?

There’s no right way to choose a WordPress plugin. All WordPress plugins have their benefits and flaws.

But when you are choosing a WordPress slider plugin, there are a couple of things you need to look for in a plugin:

  • The plugin should be lightweight and easy to use
  • See if it has some pre-made patterns. Pre-made patterns are often useful for quickly deploying a slider – whether you are using it for a blog or on a WooCommerce store.
  • A slider should be like a Lego block. You can simply drag and drop it on a page. This is a must-have feature for any WordPress or WooCommerce product slider.
  • The slider plugin should have support for a wide range of themes. Also, there should be proper support for other popular plugins as well.
  • The design properties should be feature-rich. You should have granular-level support for changing various design properties of the slider.
  • There should be different animation settings sliders. At least there should be an automatic and manual mode for using the slider.
  • You need to have proper image settings within the slider settings. Without proper image settings, you will not be able to showcase your message or product to your readers or buyers.
  • For product sliders, in particular, you need to have proper support for WooCommerce. Without it, you may not be able to showcase your products to the audience.
